Luka Garza scored 24 points, and No. 20-ranked Iowa led wire-to-wire in its Big Ten Conference defeat of Ohio State, 85-76, Thursday in Iowa City, Iowa.
Garza added to his case for national player of the year honors from the outset, opening his balanced all-around night with an assist to Connor McCaffrey. When McCaffrey nailed the 3-pointer, Iowa (19-8, 10-6 Big Ten) was off to the races. Ryan Kriener scored 12 points, Joe Wieskamp added 13 and Bakari Evelyn chipped in 15 points off the bench.
Ohio State (17-9, 7-8), meanwhile, sputtered early offensively, shooting below 20 percent from behind the 3-point line for much of the night. A late barrage pulled the team's average to 30 percent, but the burst could not dig the Buckeyes from their hole.
E.J. Liddell came off the bench to record 17 points and eight rebounds for the Buckeyes, Duane Washington Jr. scored 15 points, and Kyle Young scored four of his eight points to pull Ohio State to within single-digits on two occasions.
No. 2 Gonzaga 71, San Francisco 54
Killian Tillie scored 22 points and Filip Petrusev added 16 points, and the Bulldogs rallied to defeat the Dons in Spokane, Wash.
Gonzaga (27-1, 13-0 West Coast Conference) won its 19th straight game and 40th consecutive regular-season conference game, but it wasn't easy.
Tillie, who has been bothered by an ankle injury and missed Gonzaga's last game, went 10-for-13 from the field and recorded nine rebounds before fouling out. Charles Minlend led the Dons with 22 points. Khalil Shabazz scored 13 points off the bench for San Francisco (17-11, 6-7).
Arizona State 77, No. 14 Oregon 72
Rob Edwards had 24 points and tied a career high with five 3-pointers while Alonzo Verge Jr. had 26 points off the bench to help the host Sun Devils extend their winning streak to six games by beating the Ducks.
Remy Martin had 11 points and five assists and Romello White had eight points and 11 rebounds for the Sun Devils (18-8, 9-4 Pac-12), who never trailed while continuing their ascent up the conference standings.
Payton Pritchard had 16 of his 18 points and four 3-pointers in the second half before fouling out with 2:15 remaining. Will Richardson also had 18 points and Chris Duarte had 10 for the Ducks (20-7, 9-5), who dropped out of a first-place tie in the conference with Colorado.
No. 18 Colorado 70, USC 66
McKinley Wright IV recorded 15 points, seven assists and six rebounds and the Buffaloes moved into first place in the Pac-12 by edging out the Trojans in Boulder, Colo.
Tyler Bey registered 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Shane Gatling scored 13 points for the Buffaloes (21-6, 10-4 Pac-12). D'Shawn Schwartz and Lucas Siewert added 11 points apiece for Colorado.
Onyeka Okongwu scored 21 points and notched four steals for USC (19-8, 8-6). Okongwu missed the previous two games with a concussion. Jonah Mathews had 17 points and three steals while Nick Rakocevic contributed 14 points and 11 rebounds for USC.
No. 23 BYU 85, Santa Clara 75
TJ Haws went 12-for-12 from the free-throw line, scored 28 points and had nine assists to lead the Cougars over the visiting Broncos in Provo, Utah.
Yoeli Childs added 22 points and 11 rebounds, and Jake Toolson had 20 points and 10 boards for BYU (22-7, 11-3 West Coast Conference). The Cougars won their seventh consecutive game.
Josip Vrankic led the Broncos (18-10, 5-8) with 28 points and 11 rebounds. Tahj Eaddy chipped in with 11 points, and Keshawn Justice had 10 points and eight boards for Santa Clara, which lost for the fourth straight game.
No. 24 Arizona 89, Oregon State 63
Arizona's three freshman starters combined for 47 points and the Wildcats took advantage of the ejection of Beavers standout Tres Tinkle in a victory in Tucson, Ariz.
Josh Green led the way with 18 points for Arizona, which won its third in a row and avenged an 82-65 loss at Oregon State on Jan. 12. Nico Mannion added 16 points, and Zeke Nnaji contributed 13 for the Wildcats (19-7, 9-4 Pac-12).
Oregon State (15-11, 5-9) committed 21 turnovers. Jarod Lucas scored a team-high 18, while Kylor Kelley had 14 points, eight rebounds and five blocks.
